ASTM A268 Testing Requirements
The hardness of the pipe must not exceed the specified Brinell and Rockwell hardness values, with a maximum Rockwell hardness of 90 for TP410, TP430, and TP439. Test reports must comply with specifications A1016/A1016M.
Several mechanical tests should be performed, including:
Hydrostatic or nondestructive spark testing;
Tensile testing;
Flange testing (seamless pipe);
Hardness testing;
Reverse flattening testing;
Intergranular corrosion testing; and

ASTM A268 is the standard specification for seamless and welded ferritic and martensitic stainless steel pipe for general use. Includes grades TP410, TP405, TP420, TP430, TP430Ti, TP403, TP409, TP444, TP439, and TP446. Pipe is manufactured by seamless or welded processes and reheated to 1200°F (650°C) or higher, then cooled to meet the requirements of this specification. All pipe must be free of excessive mill scale before inspection. Minor mill scale is not considered mill scale.
