ASTM A333 specification covers carbon steel pipe suitable for cryogenic service. A333 carbon steel cryogenic pipe specified by ASTM has moderate tensile properties and good hardness, but low corrosion resistance. The corrosion resistance of alloys can be improved through the use of surface treatments. The most common are treatments such as galvanizing, varnishing, CRA or stainless steel cladding, 3PE/3LPE, FBE and lining.
LTCS Pipe A333 Description
Low Temperature Carbon Steel (LTCS) ASTM A 333 Grade 6 is a seamless carbon steel pipe designed for cryogenic applications down to -46°C (-50°F). LTCS ASTM A333 pipe has medium strength and toughness down to -50°F (-46°C). It has similar properties to AISI 4032 steel. The material composition of LTCS ASTM A333 pipe includes carbon (0.30% maximum), manganese (1.35% maximum), phosphorus (0.025% maximum), sulfur (0.025% maximum), silicon (0.10 minimum %), nickel (max 0.50%), chromium (max 0.30%) and molybdenum (max 0.12%). These elements give the pipe excellent toughness and impact strength at low temperatures.
