ASTM A312 UNS S32100 (Grade 321) is a titanium-stabilized, austenitic stainless steel industrial pipe that offers excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion after high-temperature exposure and maintains good strength up to 816°C (1500°F). What is the service temperature range for Type 321 stainless steel?
Type 321 stainless steel is generally used in heavy-duty welding equipment operating between 800 and 1500°F (427 and 816°C), or with slow cooling within this temperature range. Key Characteristics
Stability: The addition of titanium prevents carbide precipitation, which causes intergranular corrosion in other austenitic stainless steels at high temperatures.
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion even at high temperatures (427-816°C / 800-1500°F) and good general corrosion resistance.
High-Temperature Performance: High creep strength and stress-rupture properties surpass those of alloys such as 304 and 304L.
Mechanical Properties: Not hardenable by heat treatment, but can be strengthened by cold working. Demonstrates good toughness at low temperatures.
