ASTM A312 TP316L Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe For Petrochemical Applications

ASTM A312 TP316L stainless steel seamless pipe for petrochemical applications

ASTM A312 TP316L seamless pipe is a corrosion-resistant, high-strength option for petrochemical applications due to its low carbon content, making it ideal for welding and challenging environments containing chlorides and mild acids. Key advantages include excellent resistance to chloride, pitting, and crevice corrosion; good mechanical properties; high-temperature performance up to 870°C; and availability in a variety of sizes and surface treatments, such as annealing and pickling, for enhanced cleanability and durability. Its seamless nature provides superior strength and reliability compared to welded pipe in critical systems.

What are the specifications for SS 316 seamless pipe?

316 stainless steel pipe has a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 200 MPa. Its density is as high as 8,000 kg/m³. Standard wall thicknesses for these pipes range from 0.5 mm to 6.35 mm. SS 316 seamless pipe does not have fillet welds.

Gnee Steel consistently wins repeat orders from new and existing customers with over 18 years of experience, strict quality control, excellent sales service, and timely delivery. Quality is our top priority.

ASTM A312 TP316L (UNS S31603) is a low-carbon, austenitic stainless steel seamless pipe designed for high-corrosion and high-temperature applications in the petrochemical, chemical, oil and gas, and other demanding industries. Due to its reduced carbon content (≤0.03%), it offers superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared to standard 316 stainless steel, minimizing carbide precipitation during welding and thermal cycling.

Sizes: Available in a variety of sizes, from small (e.g., $6) to large (up to $1200).
Wall Thickness: Available in thicknesses from 0.6 mm to 12.7 mm. Lengths: Available in single or double lengths, random lengths, or custom lengths.

Comparison: TP316L (UNS S31603) vs TP316 (UNS S31600)

Comparison Item TP316L (UNS S31603) TP316 (UNS S31600)
Carbon Content ≤0.03% (Ultra-low carbon, superior intergranular corrosion resistance after welding) ≤0.08% (Standard carbon content, may sensitize after welding/high temperatures)
Corrosion Resistance Excellent (Low carbon minimizes carbide precipitation, superior pitting/crevice corrosion resistance) Good (But may lose corrosion resistance due to carbide precipitation in harsh conditions)
Weldability No post-weld annealing required (Cost-effective for welded structures) May require post-weld heat treatment (To prevent intergranular corrosion)
High-Temp Performance Suitable for continuous service up to 925°C (Reduced chromium carbide formation) Suitable for ≤870°C (Long-term high temp may cause weakening)
Mechanical Strength Tensile: ≥485 MPa, Yield: ≥170 MPa (Slightly lower than TP316) Tensile: ≥515 MPa, Yield: ≥205 MPa (Higher strength)
Primary Applications Chemical/offshore/nuclear (Harsh corrosive environments) General industry/food processing (Moderate conditions)
Cost Slightly higher (Due to low-carbon control process) Slightly more economical (Standard composition)

About Gnee Steel

Gnee Steel specializes in the production of a wide range of stainless steel products. Gnee Steel's product packaging includes: Steel Strapping: Pipes with an outer diameter of 3 inches or less are typically strapped together with polypropylene film to prevent rust during ocean shipping, and then secured with steel strapping. Wooden Cases/Crates: Pipes are typically packaged in wooden cases or crates to protect the pipes during transportation, especially those that are longer or have larger diameters. Seaworthy Export Packaging: Suppliers typically use standard seaworthy export packaging methods, which may include a variety of materials and techniques to protect the pipes during transportation. Tarpaulin Packaging: This prevents rain, seawater, and other external factors from penetrating the export crates during transportation. Gnee Steel specializes in the production and sale of alloy materials. Gnee Steel's products are widely used in the aerospace, chemical, power, automotive, and nuclear energy sectors, and we can provide customized alloy material solutions based on customer needs.
