304 brushed stainless steel plate

Brushed 304 stainless steel sheets are brushed to a matte satin finish, offering low reflectivity and an understated, modern aesthetic. With a chromium content of approximately 18% and nickel of approximately 8%, it's a versatile, corrosion-resistant, and durable material suitable for a variety of interior applications, such as kitchen backsplashes and architectural accents. These sheets are also non-magnetic, easy to work with, and often come with a protective film to protect the surface during shipping and handling.

What is brushed 304 stainless steel?

The 304 stainless steel sheet #4 finish is a brushed finish commonly found on kitchen appliances and backsplashes. The 304 stainless steel sheet #4 finish has a PVC film on one side to help prevent scratches during manufacturing and installation.

304 stainless steel

304 #4 stainless steel sheet is ideal for most fabrication processes and for both indoor and outdoor applications. This non-magnetic product features a brushed 4-gauge finish with directional grain and a removable PVC protective film on one side, making it ideal for aesthetic applications such as backsplashes. 304 #4 stainless steel is a high-strength material with excellent corrosion resistance, making it popular in aerospace structures, pressure vessels, architectural designs, and food and beverage industry equipment. ASTM A240 is the standard specification for chromium and chromium-nickel stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip for pressure vessels and general applications.

The process for achieving a #4 polishing effect

The #4 polishing effect is achieved by mechanically polishing the stainless steel surface using abrasive materials. This process involves using progressively finer abrasives to remove surface blemishes and scratches, resulting in a smooth, uniform surface. The final step is to create a brushed texture by moving the polishing material across the surface in a consistent pattern. This brushing action produces fine parallel lines visible to the naked eye, but does not produce a mirror-like reflection.

Stainless Steel Sheet with #4 Brushed Finish Features:

Brushed, grained, and unpolished

Highly corrosion-resistant, with a high strength-to-weight ratio, it's easy to machine, clean, and harden.
304 #4 stainless steel sheet stock sizes range from 24 gauge (0.025") to 16 gauge (0.063").
Stock sizes are available in 48" x 120" sheets; sheets can be purchased in 12" x 48" increments (12" x 48", 24" x 48", 36" x 48", etc.).
Multiple sizes are available with a single-sided PVC coating. The PVC coating is factory-applied during production to protect the surface.
Common uses include the food and beverage industry, sanitary applications, aerospace structures, elevator doors, and storefronts.

Application of #4 finish stainless steel

Architecture and Interior Design: It is commonly used in commercial and residential buildings for wall cladding, elevator interiors, handrails, column caps, and decorative elements.
Kitchen and Food Equipment: Stainless steel with a No. 4 finish is commonly used for kitchen backsplashes, countertops, sinks, and appliances.
Commercial and Retail Fixtures: It is used for display fixtures, signage, and decorative elements in commercial and retail environments.
Automotive and Aerospace: Stainless steel with a No. 4 finish is used for trim and accents in vehicle and aircraft interiors.
Furniture and Home Accessories: Brushed finishes are used for furniture components, handles, knobs, and other home accessories.

All in all, the #4 finish on raw stainless steel offers a stylish and practical option for a variety of applications. Its non-reflective, uniform grain pattern, and ability to hide imperfections make it a popular choice in architectural and functional environments.
