Hastelloy C22 and C276 round bars are high-performance corrosion-resistant nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys with excellent weldability and strength. C276 is generally more suitable for reducing environments and is more cost-effective; while C22, due to its higher chromium content, offers superior corrosion resistance to oxidizing, mixed corrosive, and pitting environments.
What are the characteristics of C22 alloy?
C-22 alloy exhibits excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. It has excellent corrosion resistance to oxidizing aqueous media, including acids containing oxidizing agents, wet chlorine, and mixtures containing nitric acid or other oxidizing acids and chloride ions.
The molybdenum and high nickel content in Hastelloy C276 round bars (Alloy C276) gives this nickel-steel alloy excellent resistance to crevice corrosion and pitting in reducing environments, while the chromium provides resistance to corrosion in oxidizing media.

Similarly, the high chromium content in Hastelloy C22 rods (Alloy C22) provides excellent resistance to corrosion in oxidizing media, while the tungsten and molybdenum content gives it superior resistance to corrosion in reducing media.

How to choose?
If the environment is highly oxidizing, such as in pharmaceutical, marine, or strong acidic chemical applications, and there is a risk of pitting corrosion, choose C22 alloy.
If excellent overall corrosion resistance and high material strength are required, such as in general high-temperature or reducing acidic environments (e.g., wet hydrogen chloride), choose C276 alloy.
