Alloy 400 vs Hastelloy C276

Both Alloy 400 (nickel-copper alloy) and Hastelloy C276 (nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy) are high-performance corrosion-resistant nickel-based alloys. Alloy 400 performs well in moderate-temperature seawater and reducing environments and is more cost-effective. Hastelloy C276, on the other hand, exhibits significantly stronger corrosion resistance to corrosive chemicals, high-temperature oxidation, and pitting corrosion in chloride environments.

When to use Hastelloy C276?

C-276 alloy is widely used in industries requiring extremely high corrosion resistance, including chemical and petrochemical processing, oil and gas, power generation, pollution control, pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper, and wastewater treatment.

Hastelloy C276

Monel Alloy 400
Monel Alloy 400 is a nickel-copper alloy composed of 67% nickel and 23% copper. This gives it excellent corrosion resistance, as well as exceptional strength and toughness. These properties make it a commonly used material in industrial applications. Some of its common uses include the chemical, aerospace engineering, and shipbuilding industries. Despite its high strength, Monel Alloy 400 is also easily formable and can be machined into various shapes required by different industries. Due to its wide applicability, material cost savings can increasingly benefit customers – making it an ideal choice for those seeking reliable and cost-effective solutions.

Hastelloy C276
Hastelloy C276 is composed of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum, giving it excellent corrosion resistance. This makes the material suitable for many applications, including chemical processing, power generation, hydrochloric acid production, and marine engineering. Although more expensive than other metals, Hastelloy C276 offers a good return on investment due to its strength and reliability. Its heat resistance makes it particularly useful in industries requiring heat-resistant or stress-resistant materials, such as aerospace and nuclear engineering – helping manufacturers deliver higher-quality products without compromising durability.
