AR500 is a grade of wear-resistant (AR) steel sheet that is known for its hardness, strength and wear resistance. This grade has one of the highest hardness levels of common AR steel sheet grades - with a Brinell Hardness Number (BHN) ranging from 460-544 - and is typically used in areas with high wear and impact loads. AR500 steel sheet meets ASTM E10 specifications for Brinell hardness testing.

Advantages of AR500 steel:
The hardness and strength of AR500 steel sheet makes it extremely resistant to wear and impact. These properties make AR500 steel a strong and durable material, which is important in applications that require materials that can withstand extreme wear.
AR500's durability also means the material requires replacement less often than less abrasion-resistant materials, reducing material costs and preventing devastating equipment failures.
Dimensions:
The high carbon composition and additional chemical alloys included in AR500 steel give the material increased hardness and wear resistance. However, adding large amounts of carbon also reduces the formability and strength of AR500 compared to other grades of sheet steel. The hardness of AR500 also means that the material is harder and therefore less machineable than mild and HSLA steels.
To further improve the properties needed in high wear environments, AR500 steel undergoes a heat treatment known as quenching and tempering. This heat treatment process changes the grain structure of the steel material to increase toughness and reduce bitterness.
