A335 is often called chromoly tube because of its chemical composition of molybdenum (Mo) and chromium (Cr). Molybdenum can improve the strength of steel as well as its elastic limit and wear resistance, impact quality and hardenability. Molybdenum can improve softening resistance, inhibit grain growth, and make chromium steel less susceptible to embrittlement. Molybdenum is the single most effective additive for increasing high temperature creep strength. It also enhances the corrosion resistance of steel and inhibits pitting corrosion.
Seamless A335 Alloy Steel Pipe
ASTM A335 pipe (ASME S/A335, Chorme-Moly) is a seamless ferritic alloy steel pipe used in high temperature applications. Sometimes referred to as "P-grade," common P-grades for T-shaped molybdenum pipe are P5, P9, P11, P22, and P91. The most common uses of P11, P22 and P91 grades are in the power industry and petrochemical industry, with P5 and P9 grades commonly used in refineries.
