What is the difference between S355J0WP and other weather-resistant structural steels?

Difference from S355J2WP

Impact Test Temperature: The impact test temperature of S355J0WP is 0°C, and the longitudinal impact energy is ≥27J; while the impact test temperature of S355J2WP is -20°C, and the longitudinal impact energy is also ≥27J. This indicates that S355J2WP has better low-temperature toughness and can maintain its toughness at lower temperatures.

Chemical Composition: There is a difference in phosphorus content between the two. The phosphorus content of S355J0WP is 0.06-0.15%, and the phosphorus content of S355J2WP is slightly higher, usually in the range of 0.05-0.16%. Phosphorus is an alloying element that helps form a protective rust layer, and the higher phosphorus content in S355J2WP contributes to its better corrosion resistance to a certain extent.

Difference from S355J0W

Chemical Composition: S355J0W has a carbon content of ≤0.16%, a manganese content of 0.50-1.50%, a phosphorus content of ≤0.035%, a silicon content of ≤1.00%, a chromium content of 0.40-0.80%, and a copper content of 0.25-0.55%; while S355J0WP has a carbon content of ≤0.12%, a manganese content of ≤1.00%, a phosphorus content of 0.06-0.15%, a silicon content of ≤0.75%, a chromium content of 0.30-1.25%, and a copper content of 0.25-0.55%. It can be seen that S355J0WP has lower limits for carbon, manganese, and silicon content, and a higher limit for phosphorus content.

 

Mechanical Properties: In terms of yield strength, for plates with a thickness of ≤16mm, the yield strength of both S355J0W and S355J0WP is ≥355MPa; when the thickness is 16-40mm, the yield strength of S355J0W is ≥345MPa, and that of S355J0WP is also ≥345MPa. In terms of tensile strength, when the thickness of S355J0W is ≤3mm, the tensile strength is 510-680MPa, and when it is >3-100mm, the tensile strength is 470-630MPa, which is the same as that of S355J0WP. However, S355J0W has more detailed regulations on yield strength for thickness ranges above 40mm.

 

Application Scenarios: S355J0W is widely used in high-speed rail bogies and welding, bolting, and riveting parts; S355J0WP is more used in structures using thinner materials and has enhanced atmospheric corrosion resistance at ambient temperature.
