What is the difference between galvanized steel and stainless steel?

What is galvanized steel?

Galvanized sheet is a composite profile made of steel with a zinc layer on the surface. Its production process mainly includes hot dip plating and electrochemical deposition. This surface treatment technology can significantly improve the anti-corrosion performance of steel, keep it stable in humid or corrosive environments, and thus greatly improve the durability of the material. This product is widely used in many industrial fields such as construction engineering, transportation equipment manufacturing, and household appliance production.

Both galvanized and stainless steel have corrosion resistance effects. What is the difference between them?

The difference between galvanized and stainless steel:

Different materials: galvanized sheet is a steel sheet with zinc layer on its surface, and stainless steel is an alloy steel containing alloy elements such as chromium.

Different corrosion resistance: stainless steel has strong corrosion resistance, while galvanized sheet has low corrosion resistance.

Different appearance: stainless steel has a smoother surface and metallic luster, while galvanized sheet has a silver-gray matte feel.

Different prices: Generally speaking, the price of stainless steel is higher than that of galvanized sheet.

What are the common grades of galvanized steel sheets?

① Chinese Standard (GB/T)
DX51D+Z (common purpose galvanized sheet)
DX52D+Z (galvanized sheet for stamping)
DX53D+Z (galvanized sheet for deep drawing)
SGCC (corresponding to Japanese standard JIS G 3302, ordinary galvanized steel sheet)
SGCD1/SGCD2/SGCD3 (galvanized sheet for stamping grade)
International Standard (ISO,EN)
DX51D, DX52D, DX53D, DX54D (EU EN 10346 standard)
S220GD+Z, S250GD+Z, S350GD+Z (galvanized steel sheet for structure, the number represents yield strength)
Japanese Standard (JIS)
SGCC (ordinary galvanized steel sheet)
SGC340, SGC400, SGC490 (numbers represent tensile strength, unit MPa)
SGCD1, SGCD2, SGCD3 (galvanized sheet for stamping)
