Stainless Steel ERW Pipe Encyclopedia

Stainless steel electric resistance welded pipe is a tubular product manufactured by forming stainless steel strip or coil into a tubular shape and then welding the longitudinal seams using an electric current to create a strong, continuous connection. These pipes combine the high corrosion resistance and durability of stainless steel with the cost-effectiveness of the electric resistance welding process. They are suitable for low- and medium-pressure applications across a wide range of industries, including water supply, agriculture, and natural gas pipelines.

What is 316 stainless steel pipe?

Grade 316 is the standard molybdenum-containing stainless steel pipe, second only to grade 304 in overall production among austenitic stainless steels. The molybdenum element gives grade 316 better overall corrosion resistance than grade 304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.

Advantages of Stainless Steel Straight Seam Welded Pipe

1. Significant Cost Advantages
The production process for stainless steel straight seam welded pipe is relatively simple, and the forming and welding speeds are fast, resulting in high production efficiency and significantly reduced time costs. Furthermore, during the processing of the raw steel strip, waste is reduced, utilization is high, and material costs are reduced. Overall, its cost is lower than some seamless steel pipes and other similar pipes that undergo complex welding processes, saving costs for engineering projects and offering significant advantages in large-scale use.

2. Excellent Processability

Due to its uniform material quality and stable internal structure, the cut is smooth, without edge collapse or deformation, and can be precisely cut to the desired length. During bending, it is less prone to cracking and wrinkling, and can be bent into various curved shapes to meet the needs of complex pipe layouts. It is highly compatible with various welding processes, resulting in high-quality welds and strong sealing.

3. High Dimensional Accuracy

During the production process, advanced forming equipment and precise welding process control are used to control the deviation of pipe dimensions such as outer diameter and wall thickness to very small limits. For example, the outer diameter tolerance can be controlled to ±0.5 mm, and the wall thickness tolerance can be controlled to ±0.2 mm. This high precision allows for a tighter fit during installation. In petrochemical pipeline installations, high-precision stainless steel straight seam welded pipes ensure precise connections, reduce the difficulty of sealing, and improve the overall stability and safety of the pipeline system.
