316 stainless steel strip and coil is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel containing molybdenum. This addition enhances its overall corrosion resistance, improves its resistance to pitting corrosion from chloride solutions, and increases its strength at elevated temperatures. Type 316L is an ultra-low carbon version of Type 316, minimizing harmful carbide precipitation caused by welding. Its properties are similar to those of Type 304, but with slightly higher strength at elevated temperatures. Corrosion resistance is improved, particularly to sulfuric, hydrochloric, acetic, formic, and tartaric acids; as well as acidic sulfates and alkaline chlorides. 316L stainless steel strip, coil, and sheet are suitable for a wide range of applications.

Is 316 stainless steel corrosion-resistant?

316 stainless steel contains 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel, and 2-3% molybdenum. The addition of molybdenum significantly enhances its resistance to chlorides and other corrosive elements. It offers excellent corrosion resistance, particularly against chlorides and other industrial solvents.
