S235JR/S235J0/S235J2 – Grade Comparison and Technical Overview

S235 steel plate is a non-alloy structural steel produced in accordance with the European standard EN 10025, with three main grades: S235JR, S235J0, and S235J2.

The key distinction between these grades lies in their impact toughness at different temperatures:

S235JR is tested for impact at room temperature,

S235J0 at 0°C,

S235J2 at –20°C.

Apart from the variation in impact test temperature, the three grades share similar chemical composition and mechanical properties.

S235 steel plates are typically delivered in one of the following conditions: as-rolled, controlled rolled, or normalized, depending on application requirements.
