Machining and Forming

 

 Machining Difficulty

 Cutting
Plasma cutting is the preferred method for both, offering high cost-effectiveness. For flame cutting, NM400 requires preheating to approximately 100°C, and NM450 requires approximately 150°C. Laser cutting and waterjet cutting are available for applications requiring higher precision.

 

 Cold Forming
NM400 can be cold-bent to a suitable minimum bending radius (3t transversely, 4t longitudinally).

NM450 is not suitable for arbitrary cold bending and requires more careful parameter control.

 

 Machining
NM400 can use standard high-speed steel (HSS) tools.

NM450 typically requires carbide or cobalt alloy tools to achieve optimal tool life and machining quality.
