Inconel 718 alloy plate properties and composition

Inconel 718 alloy plate properties and composition
Inconel 718 plate is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant nickel-chromium-iron precipitation-hardening superalloy (containing 50-55% nickel and 17-21% chromium) with excellent weldability, creep rupture strength up to 1300°F (700°C), and good post-weld crack resistance. It is primarily used in aerospace, rocket engines, and nuclear reactors, and its plate form is ideal for manufacturing high-stress, high-temperature components.
At what temperature does Inconel 718 oxidize?
1223 K to 1573 K
In a normal atmospheric environment, the oxidation rate of Inconel 718 exhibits a parabolic behavior and is diffusion-controlled over a wide temperature range of 1223 K to 1573 K for extended periods (up to several weeks). When the temperature exceeds 1573 K, oxidation becomes very severe, and the material undergoes significant deformation.

Inconel 718 alloy plate is a nickel-based high-temperature alloy product known for its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures. This alloy is designed for harsh environments and is widely used in industries such as aerospace, power generation, and oil and gas. Its plate form is particularly suitable for applications requiring precision machining and structural integrity.

Characteristics of Inconel 718 Plate
High Strength: Inconel 718 plate maintains high mechanical strength even under harsh conditions. It retains its structural integrity in high-pressure and high-temperature environments.
This makes it suitable for aerospace and high-performance applications.
Corrosion Resistance: The alloy exhibits oxidation and corrosion resistance in harsh environments. It performs well in acidic, marine, and high-temperature environments. This corrosion resistance extends the lifespan of parts.
Creep Resistance: Inconel 718 plate can withstand deformation caused by long-term mechanical stress. It maintains its shape and strength over extended periods at high temperatures. Therefore, it can be used in parts subjected to continuous loads.
Weldability: Compared to most other high-temperature alloys, it is easy to weld and less prone to cracking. It is suitable for various welding processes with minimal post-welding treatment. This makes manufacturing and repairing components more convenient.
Thermal Stability: The alloy remains stable at temperatures up to 1300°F (700°C) without performance degradation. It maintains its mechanical properties and corrosion resistance at high temperatures. It is an ideal material for turbine engines and exhaust systems.
Low-Temperature Performance: Inconel 718 plate exhibits high strength and good ductility at extremely low temperatures. It is not prone to embrittlement and is suitable for cryogenic environments. It is commonly used in aerospace and liquefied gas applications.
