Hastelloy C276 Plate Vs Alloy 825 Plate

Due to its high molybdenum and tungsten content, Hastelloy C276 plates exhibit excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and reducing acids (such as hydrochloric acid and wet chlorine), making them more suitable for harsh chemical environments. Meanwhile, Alloy 825 plates (Inco 825) perform well under oxidizing conditions, resisting sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and seawater corrosion, and possess excellent ductility. They are also cost-effective in applications with relatively low corrosiveness, such as oil and gas and chemical industries, where a certain level of strength is still required. For extremely reducing and pitting environments, choose C276 alloy plates; for applications with good overall corrosion resistance, better ductility, and cost-effectiveness in oxidizing/mixed media, choose Alloy 825 plates.

Hastelloy C276 Plate

Hastelloy C276 plate is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy with added tungsten. It exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in both oxidizing and reducing environments, making it suitable for chemical processing, flue gas desulfurization systems, and pollution control applications. It demonstrates high resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, stress cracking, intergranular corrosion, and general corrosion in most highly corrosive media. Hastelloy C276 plate has excellent weldability, requiring no pre- or post-weld heat treatment.

Incoloy 825 Plate

Incoloy 825 plate is a nickel-based plate with excellent creep and stress fracture properties. It exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in a variety of media, including sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and nitric acid. Compared to the 800 series alloys, the addition of molybdenum improves its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Simultaneously, the addition of copper improves its resistance to sulfide stress cracking and general corrosion. Incoloy 825 plate is also used in applications requiring resistance to chloride ion contamination, such as seawater or phosphate environments.

Differences between Hastelloy C276 and Alloy 825 Plates

Corrosion Resistance: Both Hastelloy C276 and Alloy 825 are highly corrosion-resistant alloys. However, due to its higher molybdenum and tungsten content, Hastelloy C276 exhibits better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. In contrast, Alloy 825, with its higher nickel and chromium content, offers better resistance to oxidation and reduction.

Tensile Strength: Hastelloy C276 plates have a higher tensile strength than Alloy 825 plates. This means it is more resistant to tensile deformation.

Yield Strength: Hastelloy C276 plates also have a higher yield strength than Alloy 825 plates. This means it can withstand greater deformation before fracture.

Applications: Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, Hastelloy C276 is commonly used in the chemical, pollution control, and pulp and paper industries. On the other hand, due to its excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and pitting corrosion, Alloy 825 is commonly used in oil and gas production, chemical, and power generation industries.
