The main difference between 316L and 022Cr17Ni12Mo2 stainless steel is the nickel content. The Chinese standard stainless steel requires at least 10% nickel, while the Japanese standard requires at least 12%.
Additionally, phosphorus content is another factor: the Chinese standard limits it to 0.035%, while the Japanese standard allows up to 0.045%.
For chromium content, the Chinese standard requires 16%, whereas the Japanese standard requires 18%. Both standards require molybdenum content to be above 2%.
So, the Chinese grade is 022Cr17Ni12Mo2, while the Japanese grade stainless steel is SUS 316L.
