Xar400 Xar500 Wear Resistant Steel Plate High Hardness
With the advantages of high hardness, quenching and tempering heat treatment, through adding special chemical elements, applications: mining, heavy equipments in steel mills, cement industry, agricultural machinery. Normally hardness of XAR Steel differs due to the delivery state, for example, after annealing to soft, Hardness of XAR 600 at room temperature is 300HB (max), after hardening or heat treatment, it increases to 550 HB(min).
- XAR 400 steel plate: this grade is the most commonly used steel grade with normal abrasion resistant level, it has extraordinary cold formability and weldablity, its abrasion resistant property doesn't get weekend when the temperature is below 400℃.
- XAR 450 steel plate: this grade is a upgraded version of XAR400 with abrasion resistant characteristic improved, the working temperature remains below 400℃.
- XAR 500 steel plate: maintains formable and weldable characteristics, with element B added, it has higher level of wear resistance for conveyors, crushers, lorries, etc. It shall be delivered as water quenched.
- XAR 550 and XAR 600 steel plate: cold forming is not allowed for the high hardness, with Ni element added, it is delivered as water quenched or soft-annealed steel.

What is AR400 Steel? AR400 is specifically designed for abrasion and wear-resistant applications. AR400 has a typical hardness range of 360-444 BHN, which is slightly lower than AR450. As with other abrasion-resistant steels, it does not have defined chemistry, but rather, the grade is determined based on hardness.
2.What is the most wear-resistant steel?
600HB: HARDOX600 and XAR600 are among the hardest wear-resistant steels on the market. They offer maximum abrasion resistance and are used in applications where the wear stress is extremely high, such as in crushing plants or in steel production.
3.Is AR400 stronger than AR500?
Here's how it stacks up: AR400 AR500: Due to its higher manganese content, AR500 is about 1.25 times harder (500 HBW) and offers better impact resistance than AR400. However, it is also more brittle, making it less formable. Its strength and corrosion resistance make it best suited for high-impact environments.
4.What is the difference between AR500 and NM500?
AR500: Higher carbon (C: ~0.38–0.45%), chromium (Cr: ~1.5%), and boron (B: 0.0005–0.006%) for enhanced hardness and corrosion resistance . NM500: Lower carbon (C: ≤0.38%), added nickel (Ni: ≤1.0%) and molybdenum (Mo: ≤0.65%) for balanced weldability and toughness.
5.Is AR500 the same as Hardox 500?
One of the most significant differences is their hardness level. Hardox grades usually range from 400 to 600, while AR500 has a hardness level 500. Hardox has high toughness and tensile strength and can handle a wide range of extreme temperatures compared to AR500.
