ASTM A131 specification covers structural steel plates, sections, and steel rods used in shipbuilding. ASTM A131 steel sections and steel rods are mainly provided in Grade A, AH32 and AH36. Other grades of product may be supplied by agreement between buyer and manufacturer.

ASTM A131 specification covers structural steel plates, sections, and steel rods used in shipbuilding. ASTM A131 steel sections and steel rods are mainly provided in Grade A, AH32 and AH36. Other grades of product may be supplied by agreement between buyer and manufacturer. ASTM A131 materials under this specification can be divided into the following categories:

Normal strength shipbuilding steel grades A, B, D and E with a yield point of 34 ksi [235 MPa], and high strength shipbuilding steel plates Grades AH, DH, EH and FH (AH32/DH32/EH32/FH32, AH36/DH36/ EH36/FH36, AH40/DH40/EH40/FH40), with specified yield points of 46 ksi [315 MPa], 51 ksi [350 MPa] or 57 ksi [390 MPa].

ASTM A131 steel plate applications:

ASTM A131 marine steel plates can be used to manufacture hull structures for ocean-going, coastal and inland navigation vessels. Steel plates for shipbuilding are required to have certain strength, toughness, low temperature and corrosion resistance as well as good welding performance.
