Corten steel plate is also called weather resistant steel plate which is better suited for heavy and load bearing structures.Corten Steel (sometimes known as weathered steel) is a group of steel alloys that are often used in outdoor construction. Corten Steel was designed to eliminate the need for painting and if left outside, exposed to the elements, they will develop a rusted appearance in just a few months.
The natural finish does not normally require any form of maintenance such as painting, which makes the material a highly cost effective alternative to other structural steels.

Corten Steel encompasses a group of steels which possess exceptional corrosion resistance and tensile strength. Corten Steel is also known as a 'weathering' steel; as the steel forms a protective layer on its surface under the influence of the weather, and it does not need to be painted.
How can you tell if steel is Corten?
Corten steel develops a beautiful orange patina in the early days before darkening to an orange-brown hue, providing a uniquely appealing, rustic finish. Mild steel, on the other hand, tends to develop a darker orange-brown finish right from the start.
