09CuPCrNi-A is a weather-resistant steel plate characterized by the addition of small amounts of alloying elements such as Cu, P, Cr, and Ni. These elements help form a dense layer between the rust layer and the base metal, enhancing the steel's resistance to atmospheric corrosion. Internationally, this type of steel is known as Corten steel, with CorTen-A being a representative grade that closely resembles China's 09CuPCrNi-A. The commonly used thickness for 09CuPCrNi-A Corten steel ranges from 1.5 to 50 mm.

Weathering steel has an atmospheric corrosion resistance 3 to 4 times that of ordinary structural steel. Even when used without any coating, its corrosion resistance can last over 30 years. Weathering steel is convenient and versatile, as it can be painted or used bare, simplifying the production process. By eliminating processes like pickling and hot-dip galvanizing, it reduces manufacturing costs. Additionally, not using coatings prevents the emission of VOCs (volatile organic compounds), making it more environmentally friendly and beneficial for recycling. Since the corrosion resistance of weathering steel relies on its overall material structure, it is less sensitive to external impacts like scratches and dents, unlike regular steel that depends on surface treatments for protection.
09CuPCrNi-A is one type of weathering material, among many commonly used weathering steels such as Q235NH, Q235NHA, Q235NHB, and Q235NHC, which are well-known in Chinese national standards.
